This 1973 Ferrari Dino 246 GTS is one of approximately 2,900 E-series examples produced through July 1974 and was delivered new to Modern Classic Motors in Reno, Nevada. Chassis 05978 was subsequently refurbished and modified as part of a build initiated in the 1980s. Finished in red with a black tail panel and lower accents, the car features metal wheel-arch flares and rides on 16″ NTM “coffin spoke” alloy wheels coupled with QA1 adjustable coilovers at all four corners. Power is from a 2.4-liter Tipo 135CS V6 that breathes through triple Weber 44 IDF carburetors as well as 24-valve cylinder heads that were reportedly sourced from the Lancia Stratos racing program. Inside, black leather–trimmed seats are accompanied by a MOMO steering wheel paired with a gated shifter linked with a five-speed manual transaxle. Further equipment includes clear headlight covers and a removable roof panel along with custom exhaust headers and Borla mufflers. The car was previously sold on BaT in January 2024 before being acquired by the selling dealer in February 2026. This E-series 246 is now offered by 1600veloce —a BaT Local Partner—in New York State with manufacturer’s literature, a Matthias Bartz report, and a clean Montana title.

The 16″ NTM “coffin spoke” alloy wheels are mounted with 205/55 front 245/45 rear Pirelli Cinturato P7 tires. The car rides on QA1 coilovers with top mountings sourced from Unobtanium Supply Co. Various suspension components were powder-coated black and the power-assisted ventilated disc brakes were reportedly overhauled in the course of the refurbishment. Work in 2022 involved rebuilding the steering rack and changing the suspension bushings as well as replacing the caliper piston seals and rubber bellows.

Dino-branded Veglia Borletti instrumentation includes a 170-mph speedometer, a tachometer with a 7,750-rpm redline, an analog clock, and auxiliary gauges for oil temperature, coolant temperature, oil pressure, fuel level, and amperage. The five-digit odometer shows 63k miles.

The 2.4-liter Tipo 135CS V6 was reportedly fitted with 24-valve cylinder heads sourced from the Lancia Stratos racing program prior to being installed in 1984. Work in 2022 involved inspecting the bottom end, replacing the valve steam seals, installing later-style LC0420 timing chain slippers, and reassembling the engine with new gaskets. Additional modifications are noted to include high-compression pistons, a Megajolt/E MkII ECU, a Nippon-Denso alternator, a replacement wiring harness with ATO fuses and Bosch relays, an oil cooler with a thermostatically controlled fan, a programmable distributor-less ignition system, Delphi coils, and a trio of Weber 44 IDF carburetors. Just under 1k miles are believed to have been covered since the engine reassembly.

The five-speed manual transaxle is said to be paired with a lightweight flywheel and clutch assembly. Work in 2022 involved resealing the gearbox as well as replacing both tapered roller bearings, shaft seals, and friction discs in the differential.
