This European-market 1976 Ferrari 308 GTB is one of approximately 800 fiberglass-bodied vetroresina examples produced between 1975 and 1977, and it was reportedly imported to California in 1978. The car was relocated to Japan between the late 1980s and early 1990s before it returned to the US, and it was featured on BaT in September 2016 before it was acquired by the current owner in 2017 from Symbolic International in San Diego, California. Refinished in silver over black leather, the car is powered by a 2.9-liter quad-cam V8 linked with a five-speed manual transaxle and a limited-slip differential. Equipment includes 14″ five-spoke alloy wheels, pop-up headlights, air conditioning, a gated shifter, and electric windows. The car runs, but is not currently road-worthy due to coolant leaks and worn suspension bushings. Now showing 100k kilometers (62k miles), this 308 GTB vetroresina project is now offered on consignment at no reserve by the selling dealer, a BaT Local Partner, with a clean Washington title.

The 308 GTB was introduced at the 1975 Paris Motor Show and featured Pininfarina-styled bodywork. Just 808 fiberglass-bodied vetroresina cars were produced by Carrozzeria Scaglietti before the switch to steel body panels in June 1977. The car is said to have been finished in Argento Auteuil Metallizzato from the factory, and it underwent a color change to red under previous ownership before it was reverted to silver. Exterior details include pop-up headlights, clear front turn signals, Vitaloni Californian side mirrors, a vented decklid, bumper-mounted reverse lights, and a single exhaust outlet. The selling dealer notes evidence of paint blending on the front end.

Silver 14″ five-spoke alloy wheels with Campagnolo decals are mounted with 205/70 General Altimax RT43 tires that are said to have been installed in 2015. The car features a fully independent suspension with double wishbones front and rear, and stopping power is provided by ventilated discs at each corner. The selling dealer notes that the rubber suspension bushings are old and would benefit from replacement. The brake fluid is said to have been flushed under current ownership.

The seats are said to have been re-trimmed in black leather under previous ownership, and additional details include air conditioning, electric windows, and a gated shifter with a dogleg gear pattern.

The leather-wrapped MOMO steering wheel fronts a 280-km/h speedometer, a tachometer with a 7,700-rpm redline, supplementary readouts in the cluster, and additional gauges to the left of the steering wheel. The five-digit odometer shows 100k kilometers (62k miles). The carpet is worn near the dead pedal in the driver’s footwell.

The mid-mounted 2.9-liter F106 quad-cam V8 was equipped with a dry-sump lubrication system for the European market and made approximately 250 horsepower when new. The selling dealer notes that work under current ownership included draining the fuel tanks, removing and cleaning the carburetors, and changing the engine oil and coolant. Once the engine is running at temperature, a coolant leak is present from the overflow hose, and the selling dealer notes that sealant has been used to cover up oil leaks on the distributor and cam caps. The car runs, but is not currently roadworthy.

Power is sent to the rear wheels through a five-speed manual transaxle and a limited-slip differential. Gear oil in the transaxle and differential was changed under current ownership, per the seller. The clutch is noted to stick intermittently.
