This transaxle case was purchased from Ferrari as a replacement component, installed in a 288 GTO in 2010, and removed in 2024 when the car’s factory case was located and reinstalled. The magnesium alloy casing has a removable end cover, and the whole assembly is stored in a flight case with removable wheels. This Ferrari 288 GTO transaxle case is now offered with a shaft, gears, and bearings at no reserve in Bourbon, Missouri.

Compared to the 308, the GTO wheelbase was extended by 110mm to accommodate an engine mounted longitudinally, in-line with the clutch, differential, and gearbox. By contrast, the 308 used a transverse engine layout with a gearbox mounted underneath the engine. The GTO’s five-speed unit was located at the rear of the differential.

The cast magnesium alloy case is empty and stamped with the F114 designation along with the number N179. The gearbox end cover has Ferrari branding and part number 121857. Additional identifying numbers are photographed below.

A shaft, two gears, and two bearings are among the additional components.
