This 1988 Ferrari GTS Turbo is one of a claimed 828 removable-top examples produced over a three-year production run, and it was initially delivered to Crepaldi Auto S.p.A. outside of Milan, Italy. It now shows 20k kilometers (~12k miles) following the seller’s acquisition in 2023, reportedly from the original owner. Finished in Rosso Corsa, the car is powered by a turbocharged and intercooled 1,991cc V8 with Bosch fuel injection mated to a five-speed manual transaxle. It rides on 16″ Speedline alloy wheels and is further equipped with four-wheel disc brakes, a quad-exit exhaust system, NACA ducts, and a high-mount spoiler. Inside, black leather–trimmed seats are accompanied by a gated shifter, air conditioning, and a Pioneer CD stereo. Work performed in March 2024 involved completing a timing belt service as well as replacing the air filter, oil sump gasket, and accessory belts. This 208 is now offered in Varese, Italy, with manufacturer’s literature, 1988 sales paperwork, service records, and Italian registration in the seller’s name.
The GTS Turbo and its fixed-roof counterpart, the GTB Turbo, were launched as turbocharged 2.0-liter variants of the 328 GTS for the Italian market in 1986 to avoid duties on vehicles displacing over 2.0 liters. The cars featured a revised nose and tail section over its predecessor, the 208 GTS Turbo, as well as a revised engine lid cover to accommodate the top-mount intercooler, NACA ducts ahead of each rear wheel, and five exhaust air slots in the rear valance panel when compared to the normally-aspirated 328.
The Pininfarina-designed body of this example left the factory in Rosso Corsa and features a removable roof panel finished in black. Exterior details include pop-up headlights, integrated fog lights, Vitaloni side mirrors, side air intakes, and a high-mount black spoiler as well as quad exhaust tips exiting through the rear valance. Imperfections in the finish are shown up-close in the gallery below.
Staggered-width concave 16″ Speedline five-spoke alloy wheels are mounted with 205/55 front and 225/50 rear Uniroyal Rallye RTT-2 tires, and a temporary spare is stored in the front trunk compartment. The car rides on an independent suspension with double wishbones, coil springs, and hydraulic shocks all round as well as anti-roll bars at the front and rear. Stopping power is provided by disc brakes at each corner. The rotors and pads were replaced in March 2024.
The seats are trimmed in black leather and are complemented by color-coordinated door panels, which were revised for the Turbo model. Interior amenities include a Pioneer CD stereo as well as air conditioning, a rear-window defroster, and power windows. The air conditioning refrigerant was recharged in March 2024.
The three-spoke steering wheel is wrapped in leather and paired with a dogleg-pattern gated shifter. Veglia instrumentation consists of a 280-km/h speedometer, a 10k-rpm tachometer, and gauges monitoring boost, oil pressure, and coolant temperature as well as a centrally mounted clock and readouts for oil temperature and fuel level. The five-digit odometer shows 20k kilometers (~12k miles), approximately 400 of which have been added under current ownership.
Based on the design of the F106 CB 000 enging used in the earlier 208 GTS Turbo model, the F106 N 000 V8 featured twin overhead camshafts per bank, two valves per cylinder, and a bore and stroke of 66.8mm x 71mm for a displacement of 1,991cc. The engine was outfitted with Bosch K-Jetronic fuel injection, an IHI turbocharger, a BEHR air-to-air intercooler, and a Marelli MED 807 A electronic ignition system. Output was rated at 251 horsepower and 242 lb-ft of torque when new. Work performed in March 2024 involved completing a timing belt service as well as replacing the air filter, oil sump gasket, and accessory belts.
Power is sent to the rear wheels through a five-speed synchromesh manual transaxle. The gearbox fluid was changed in March 2024.
The warranty card notes initial sale through Crepaldi Auto S.p.A. in Cormano outside of Milan, Italy, in April 1988 and lists the factory VIN and engine number. A June 1988 purchase document presented in the gallery shows a total price of just over 72 million Italian lire.
The vehicle is being sold on its Italian registration, which serves as an ownership document in Italy.
