This 1997 Ferrari 550 Maranello is a left-hand-drive European-market model that was sold new through Garage Foitek A.G. in Zurich, Switzerland, in March 1997. The car was specified in Nero Carbonio Metallic over gray and black leather, and it is powered by a replacement 5.5-liter V12 that was installed in December 2003. The car was brought to the US in late 2022 and sold on BaT in March 2023 before it was acquired by the selling dealer. Equipment includes a six-speed manual transaxle, a limited-slip differential, replacement 18″ five-spoke alloy wheels, Tubi Style rear exhaust components, power-adjustable seats, a gated shifter, a cassette stereo, and automatic climate control. Work since 2023 included replacing the steering rack, intake manifold gasket, AC compressor, exhaust thermocouple, battery, brake pads, engine mounts, and tires. This 550 Maranello is now offered by the selling dealer in California with owner’s manuals, service records, a tool kit, a clean Carfax report, and a clean Montana title.
The Pininfarina-designed bodywork is finished in Nero Carbonio Metallic (901), a color that was reportedly not specified for any North American-market 550 Maranello examples. Equipment includes projector-style headlights, fog lights, a hood scoop, a front spoiler, front fender vents, and quad exhaust tips exiting through the rear bumper cover. The front bumper cover is said to have been refinished under previous ownership. The driver’s door triangle gasket was replaced in February 2024.
Silver-finished replacement 18″ five-spoke alloy wheels are mounted with 255/40 front and 295/35 rear Bridgestone Potenza tires that were installed in April 2023. A replacement power steering rack and reservoir were installed in February 2024, and work in April 2024 consisted of resurfacing the brake rotors and fitting Brembo front and rear brake pads.
The cabin is trimmed in gray and black leather, and amenities include power-adjustable seats, a gated shifter, automatic climate control, electric windows, a Ferrari-badged cassette stereo, and rear luggage straps. The interior switches were refinished in 2022. The selling dealer tells us the airbag cover has been repaired.
The leather-wrapped three-spoke steering wheel fronts a Jaeger gauge cluster with a 340-km/h speedometer and a tachometer with a 7,600-rpm redline as well as gauges for coolant temperature and oil pressure, while an analog clock and gauges for oil temperature and fuel level are located atop the center stack. The six-digit odometer shows 60k chassis kilometers (~37k chassis miles). Blemishes are present in the leather to the right of the center stack gauges.
The 5.5-liter V12 is a replacement that was installed in December 2003 after the removed engine overheated. Per a related invoice shown in the previous listing, the replacement engine had seen approximately 550 kilometers (~342 miles) of service prior to its installation. The selling dealer tells us the most recent timing belt service was performed in 2024. Work between 2023 and 2024 included an oil change and replacing the following components:
- Engine mounts
- Intake manifold gasket
- Oil return hose
- AC compressor
- Battery
- Alternator air duct
- Crankcase ventilation hoses
Power is sent to the rear wheels through a six-speed manual transaxle and a limited-slip differential. Tubi Style rear resonators have been installed, the fluid in the transaxle was changed in April 2023, the right exhaust thermocouple was replaced in April 2024, and the selling dealer tells us the underside has been cleaned with dry ice.
The Carfax report shows no accidents or other reported damage.
The vehicle has not been inspected by the California Bureau of Automotive Repair or Air Resources Board, and it has not passed a California smog test.
