Ferrari 212 Barchetta Re-Creation

This Ferrari 212 Barchetta re-creation is based on the chassis and running gear of a left-hand-drive 1965 330 GT 2+2 Series I donor car. The reproduction alloy bodywork was constructed in the 2000s, and it is finished in red and mounted over a tubular steel frame. It spent time in the collections of Gene Ponder and Formula 3 race car driver Peter Kirill and then spent time with Florida-based marque specialist Greg Jones, who rebuilt the 4.0-liter Colombo V12 in 2021. The car was listed on BaT in April 2022. Equipment includes a four-speed manual gearbox with overdrive, four-wheel disc brakes, 16″ Borrani wire wheels, Marchal headlights and inset driving lamps, a vented hood, dual windscreens, and twin exhaust outlets. The cockpit was outfitted with replacement tan leather-trimmed aluminum bucket seats in 2023, and the transmission tunnel was reupholstered in black leather. This 212 Barchetta re-creation earned a Ferrari Club of America (FCA) Premo di Platino award at the 2023 Garden State Ferrari Fall Festival, and it is now offered on dealer consignment with a tan tonneau cover and a New Jersey title listing the car as a 1965 Ferrari 212.

The 212 platform was introduced by Ferrari in 1950 as an evolution of the grand touring platform that included the 166 and 195. Like its predecessors, the 212 was available in both road-going, or Inter, and racing forms. Of the 27 Export racing examples produced before production ended 1952, approximately eight featured Superleggera barchetta bodywork by Carrozzeria Touring based on the 166 MM of 1948.

The alloy bodywork on this car is finished in red and features Marchal headlights and inset driving lamps as well as a vented hood, dual windscreens, and twin dual exhaust outlets with chrome finishers. Touring Superleggera badges are affixed to the front fenders and to the trunk lid. Leather hood straps and polished buckles that were present on the car in 2022 have been removed. The car was reportedly built using 330 GT 2+2 chassis #6513, and it rides on 16″ Borrani wire wheels wearing Michelin radial tires showing 2019 date codes. A spare wheel and tire are mounted in the trunk. Braking is handled by four-wheel discs, and the brake boosters were rebuilt in 2021.

The cabin features aluminum bucket seats that were installed along with replacement tracks in 2023. They are upholstered in tan leather, while the transmission tunnel was retrimmed under current ownership. Tan leather with brown accent stitching surrounds the cabin, and equipment includes door pockets, lap belts, a dash-mounted rear-view mirror, and polished boot anchors.

The wood-rimmed steering wheel features a prancing horse horn button, and Veglia instrumentation includes a tachometer, a speedometer, and gauges for oil temperature, oil pressure, coolant temperature, and fuel level. The five-digit odometer shows 250 miles, approximately 40 of which were added under current ownership. The New Jersey title lists 351 actual miles, and total mileage is unknown.

The 4.0-liter Colombo V12 features triple Weber carburetors with velocity stacks and drives the rear wheels through a four-speed manual gearbox with overdrive. The engine was rebuilt by Greg Jones in 2021, and a replacement exhaust system was also installed at that time. The car is equipped with an electric cooling fan.
