This 1973 Ferrari Dino 246 GT is said to be one of five US-market coupes built with “chairs and flares” and was completed in November 1972. Chassis 04970 was purchased new at Griswold & Co. in Berkeley, California, by a US Air Force officer from Florida, who retained ownership until 2014. The car was previously listed on BaT in February 2024 and acquired by the current owner later that month. Power is provided by a 2.4-liter V6 equipped with triple Weber carburetors and mated to a five-speed manual transaxle. Finished in Rosso Chiaro over Nero leather, the car is equipped with four-wheel ventilated disc brakes, 14×7.5″ Campagnolo alloy wheels, flared wheel arches, Daytona-style seats, power windows, and a Sony CD stereo. This E-series 246 GT is now offered on dealer consignment with a Marcel Massini Report, a Dino Compendium report, owner’s manuals, service records, a tool kit, and a clean California title listing the car as a 1972 model year.

The “chairs and flares” treatment combined the option of Daytona-style seat inserts with the selection of wider Campagnolo wheels, the latter of which necessitated flared fenders. This example was ordered new with both options according to the Marcel Massini report, which also lists the original color as Rosso Chiaro.

The Scaglietti-built bodywork is said to have been repainted in 1976, and additional exterior features include chrome bumpers, a driver-side mirror, a power antenna, and Dino badging. US-market lighting includes recessed rectangular front turn signals, side markers, and rear reflectors inboard of the taillights.

Campagnolo alloy wheels measure 14×7.5” and are an inch wider than the standard Dino’s Cromodora wheels. Michelin Radial X tires measuring 205VR70/14 are mounted at all four corners, and a matching spare is mounted in the front trunk. The suspension incorporates unequal-length A-arms, coilover shock absorbers, and anti-roll bars at the front and rear. Stopping power is provided by power-assisted ventilated disc brakes all around, and work in 2020 involved repairing leaks at the master cylinder, turning the front rotors, overhauling the rear calipers, and replacing the brake fluid.

The cabin houses Daytona-style seats trimmed in Nero leather, and color-matched upholstery covers the door panels and console. Black carpets line the floors, and additional features include gray “mouse-fur” dash trim, power windows, a Sony CD stereo, air conditioning, a gated shifter, and headrests mounted to the seatbacks. The selling dealer reports that the air conditioning does not blow cold and the heater controls need servicing.

The leather-trimmed MOMO steering wheel features a Dino horn button and frames Dino-branded Veglia Borletti instrumentation including a 170-mph speedometer, a tachometer with a 7,750-rpm redline, an analog clock, and auxiliary gauges for oil temperature, coolant temperature, oil pressure, fuel level, and amperage. The five-digit odometer shows under 32k miles, approximately 100 of which were added under current ownership.

The mid-mounted 2.4-liter Tipo 135CS V6 features a 65° angle between cylinder banks, dual overhead camshafts on each bank, and a trio of two-barrel Weber carburetors. An MSD ignition box was installed in 2022 in place of the factory Magneti Marelli unit. Additional work at that time involved replacing the starter, oil pressure sending unit, and various hoses. The battery was replaced in preparation for the sale.
