The 2,927cc V8 features dual overhead camshafts on each cylinder bank and two valves per cylinder. Variants of the F106AE were produced for use in US-specification Dino 308 GT4 and Ferrari 308 GTB/GTS models. Weber 40 DCNF carburetors are retained.

Per the seller, the car had 33,501 miles when the engine was rebuilt and fitted with a replacement cylinder head, high-compression pistons, and replacement bearings. It was also fitted with computer-controlled ignition timing featuring a DTAFast Ignition computer, a throttle position sensor, a crank angle sensor, and an R134 Valeo A/C compressor. The seller further notes that a custom stainless-steel exhaust system was fabricated to create an equal-length system from exhaust port to exhaust tip. The system incorporated a valve that opens at 4,000 rpm for increased sound.
